Dear Sun Valley Community,
We are very excited to greet all of you back on campus this Wednesday! I am so grateful to our custodial team, Benny Espino and Jamar Smith, for their dedication to deep cleaning our classrooms and learning spaces this summer. Our teachers have been hard at work creating inspiring environments for connection and growth. We look forward to opening our doors!
Daily Schedule
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 8:45-3:30
Wednesday: 8:45-1:30
Morning Arrival Procedures
We will open campus at 8:30 on the first day of school. We invite all families to enter the campus to meet your child's teacher. Please review the class line locations here. Free Breakfast will be served from 8:30-8:45 inside the Multi-Purpose Room. Our school day begins at 8:45. After you have said your final goodbye, please join the PTO inside the MPR for our annual Coffee and Kleenex Welcome.
Walkers and Rollers (bikes and scooters):
- Follow the Safe Route (see attached map)
- Walk bikes and scooters on Happy Lane and on campus
- Lock bikes and scooters at the racks located by the parking lot or the 2-story
Car Riders:
- There is NO parking in the staff lots, with the exception of those with disabled placards and our auction winners
- Our PTO will continue to coordinate volunteers as "Car Door Openers"!!!
- Be prepared to have children exit from the passenger side with all belongings ready
- Be conscientious! Do not block neighbor's driveways, drive slow and safe, and be prepared for traffic
Bus Riders
- A Sun Valley staff member will greet the buses and walk our TK and Kindergarten students to breakfast or the classroom
Morning Drop-in Childcare
- Begins on Monday, August 28th starting at 7:45am
- TK and Kindergarten students will be walked to their classrooms by a Sun Valley staff member
Afternoon Dismissal Procedures |
We are making an important change for dismissal this year. We will open the school gates 10 minutes early and invite our families to pick up their child from the classroom. We know a lot of community-building occurs at the classroom door and we hope you will take the opportunity to connect with other families in your child's class. If your child's classroom is upstairs, please plan to meet them at the base of the stairs on the first floor. Your child's teacher will provide a form for your dismissal plans. We cannot release students to people not listed as an emergency contact in Aeries. For families with multiple Super Stars, please plan to pick up your youngest child first. We know that some families may allow their older children to leave campus without an adult. If this is the case, communicate your plans with the teacher and instruct your child to go directly home without additional stops. We kindly request that families leave campus by 3:45 so that our YMCA program can safely supervise their students. |

School Breakfast and Lunch
Every child in California receives a free meal during their school day. Students receive a unique identification number to enter into the meal system. Our participation in school meals continues to increase. You may view the menu at our Nutrition Services site.
We are an allergy aware school. Please communicate with your child's teacher of allergies and update the information in Aeries. We teach our students to not share food for everyone's safety.
We are already experiencing yellow jackets on campus. Morning recess snack is outside. Meat and sweet items attract yellow jackets, so please pack a snack with that in mind. Lunch for TK and Kindergarten will be inside the MPR. For 1st-5th grade, students have the choice to eat inside or outside.
After School Programs
YMCA begins on the first day of school. Please contact Bethel Gebreyesus with questions: BGebreyesus@ymcasf.org
City of San Rafael After School Classes are now viewable online. Registration for the classes will begin on Friday, 8/25 at 9am. Please contact Jason Fong with questions: Jason.Fong@cityofsanrafael.org
